RT Journal Article A1 Iyer, Stuthi A1 Kennedy, Jason N. A1 Jentzer, Jacob C. A1 Senussi, Mourad H. A1 Seymour, Christopher W. T1 Cardiac Function Before Sepsis and Clinical Outcomes JF JAMA JO JAMA YR 2024 DO 10.1001/jama.2024.3917 VO 331 IS 17 SP 1496 OP 1499 SN 0098-7484 AB Between 2009 and 2014, 21% of US adults with sepsis did not survive. Guidelines recommend urgent resuscitation of patients with sepsis, although the ideal treatment regimen is not clear and challenges to resuscitation, including the management of sepsis-related cardiac dysfunction, remain. How preexisting cardiac disease is associated with outcomes is poorly understood. This study characterizes heterogeneity in cardiac function prior to sepsis and describes associations with hospitalization outcomes and mortality.
